Science and Facts!
It takes one to two decades for sun damage and pigmentation to become visible.
The damage is so deep in the basal layer of your skin that it can take a lot longer to correct and repair with lotions and potions.
One product and one bottle of any product will not fix the pigmentation and damage. In addition, not all skincare products are made equal. For example, cosmeceuticals have smaller atoms and molecules that can travel deep into the skin, while ingredients usually found in cosmetic skincare will only act on the skin's surface.
What is the difference between cosmetics and cosmeceuticals, we hear you ask!
Well, cosmetics momentarily treat your skin while cosmeceuticals treat the root cause of the skin concern. In addition, cosmeceuticals lead to permanent results with consistent use. Results through cosmetics are immediate and fast, while cosmeceutical products give slow but permanent results.
Cosmeceuticals sit in the middle of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics hence the name. A pharmaceutical product must be prescribed as it has a high concentration of active ingredients, whereas cosmeceuticals contain ingredients like Retinoids, B vitamins, Peptides, Polyhydroxy acids, and Botanicals. Cosmeceuticals represent a category of products placed between nonprescription and prescription products (MD, 2009,). While some of these ingredients are available in "off-the-shelf" products, the concentration is minimal; if a qualified therapist or clinician recommends a skincare product, it will have a much higher concentration of ingredients and deliver results much faster. Therapists and clinicians must be trained to understand skin and how it works, and with a good understanding of ingredients, they can pair up the knowledge, ingredients + skin ability = Results!
Cosmetic skincare is easily purchased "off-the-shelf" and doesn't come with any professional guidance or need to be recommended by someone trained for them to deliver small results safely. The biggest challenge with this is that there is such a wide choice of products; how are you supposed to know which brand, which ingredient, and what level of concentration will work best with your skin?
Generally speaking, you can buy skin care products with high concentrations of specific ingredients designed to do a particular job. However, if the concentration is too high, it usually has unwanted side effects such as dryness, itchiness, stinging, and tingling. Some may feel like they are good side effects as they are doing something, but it would leave you with another problem to try and fix in the longer term.
Without cosmetic surgery or skin treatments, there is no magic fix for pigmentation removal. However skin care is an affordable way to manage and address your concerns, but it takes time.
If you don't get the results you want to see within one or two bottles or jars of use, it may be that you need to add a product or even change the product that will deal with your skin concern.
Skin care needs to be consistently applied and at the correct levels. Skincare is about finding the right balance for your skin.
