Who knew the difference?
Alpha hydroxy acids or AHAs include glycolic, lactic, and Kojic acid. A side effect of alpha-hydroxy acids is sun sensitivity, and sunscreen must be used every morning. It is advisable to start with a product with concentrations of AHA of 10 to 15 percent. Also, make sure you ease into it and wear SPF every morning to avoid developing sensitivity, pigmentation and premature ageing. That also goes for the men too!
Beta hydroxy acids or BHAs (such as salicylic) work as skin brighteners to remove dark spots caused by excessive sun exposure. BHAs exfoliate skin and can improve the texture and colour of the skin. Beta Hydroxy acids can penetrate oil-laden skin and hair follicles and, as a result, helps with acne.
Antioxidants (Centella Asiatica, Vitamin E, and Aloe Vera)protect your cells against free radicals. Free radicals play a role in various diseases and skin concerns, and your body uses antioxidants to balance free radicals and keeps them from causing damage to other cells. Antioxidants can protect and reverse some of the damage.
